Project III: Line and Form
Objectives:
This project asks you to visualize and develop a creative combination of line and form that gives rise to a unique and original, non-representational, vision of form and space.
Requirements:
Watch and take notes on the Andy Goldsworthy documentary we will be watching in class today. Read "On Line" (on the "writings" page) at www.peterhalley.com. Look up any references you are unfamiliar with. There will be in-class and take home quizzes. Reflect on how these two very different artists discuss the role of line in their art and in their worlds. Let them influence your design ideas.
Using only wire, build a free standing wire frame enlargement based on a fruit or vegetable, which has a structure that clearly describes three dimensional volumes. Make a plastilina model of your chosen fruit or vegetable to use as a guide. The overall size of your form must be between 12 and 24 inches in all directions. For critique, present your piece on a sheet of 18" x 24" white paper (or larger), accompanied by a series of 6 charcoal, conte crayon, or ink drawings of your form from six different points of view.
